Jack Cartwright

Born on January 3, 1944, in Caldwell County, Texas, Jack lived a life full of friends, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Jack was a proud United States Army veteran. He served his country during the Vietnam War with honor and carried that same spirit of service into every aspect of his life.

Jack grew up in an oil camp in South Texas. He also spent many of his early years in Robstown and Luling Texas. After his time in The Army, Jack worked for Amoco, (American Oil Company), like many members of his family. He retired from Amoco in 1993.

Once retired from Amoco, Jack opened “Jack’s Guitars” in Minden, La. His love of music and good friends made “Jack’s Guitars” one of his favorite things. He enjoyed visiting with friends and playing with multiple local musicians. He later moved his store to Ruston, Louisiana where he eventually retired his business. He spent his life enjoying music and working on classic cars as well as being an avid fisherman. His love of music and cars and fishing will continue on with his children and grandchildren.

Jack also loved being with his family. He was always seen supporting their many sporting events and hobbies. Including everything from Basketball, Softball and Baseball games to BBQ competitions.

He was known to many simply as “Papa Jack”—a testament to the deep affection and respect he inspired with all that knew him.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, Harry Gray Cartwright, his mother Winona Hazel Cartwright, and his brother, Harry Don Cartwright.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Blakey Cartwright, who remained by his side until his last breath. Jack is survived by his daughter Katy Cartwright-Underwood and her husband, Gary Underwood, his son Gray Cartwright and his wife Jennifer Cartwright. He also leaves behind four grandchildren which loved him dearly, Kaylee Underwood, Gavin Underwood, Gage Underwood, and Jackson Cartwright.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, July 28, at 2:00pm at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, LA. Visitation will be prior to the service at 1:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life filled with music, laughter, and meaningful relationships.

Honorary pallbearers are longtime friends Gary Robinson and Wayne Orr, son in law Gary Underwood, nephew, Scott Shaw, grandsons Gavin and Gage Underwood, and Jackson Cartwright, and family friend Matthew Lamp.

Although Jack will be deeply missed, his memory will live on through the family he loved so dearly and the many lives he touched. His love will remain with us always.
