

Ret. SMSGT Jack H. Strickland of Elm Grove died Sunday. He was born on August 22, 1935 in Quitman, GA. He served for a short time in the Army before joining the Air Force as a B-52 gunner. He served for 26 years and was Vietnam veteran. He retired in 1979 while stationed at Barksdale where he was manager of the NCO Club.
He later retired from the base commissary. Jack’s dedication to the military and veterans continued with his membership at VFW Post 4588, where he was a former post commander. He also served as a District 12 commander. Jack had been a member of the 12th District Honor Guard and was a member of the American Legion post in Koran. He served the citizens of Bossier Parish as an active patrol volunteer with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Posse.
Jack is preceded in death by parents, Ray and Mary Strickland, and sisters, Mary Nell Miller, all of Quitman; and Betty Nichol of Lloyd, FL.
He is survived by his wife, June Strickland of Elm Grove; daughter, Sandy Joslin and husband, Ken; grandsons, Jesse and wife, Brooke, and Jake Joslin, all of Loomis, CA; his sister, Genny Patton of Robinsville; step-sons, Fred Lamb of Bossier City and Bobby Lamb and his wife, Madelyn, of Baton Rouge; and step-grandchildren children, Melissa and David Lamb of Baton Rouge and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2012.
Funeral services celebrating Jack’s life will held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, November 1, 2012 in Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with interment to follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. Brother Ed Braswell will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
