James Jones

James Howard Jones (Jim), age 72, of Bossier City, LA, was born July 20, 1953, to Lela Morgan Jones and Howard Jones. He was married over fifty years to the love of his life and best friend, Dixie Alford Jones.

He left this earthly world on June 29, 2026, but he leaves with us a legacy of love, generosity, friendship, family, stories, and silly, off-the-cuff humor.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lela Jones; his parents-in-law, Dorset Alford, Jr. and Dorothy Alford; a brother-in-law, Dorset Alford, III (Bud); a daughter-in-law, Wendi Janway Jones, and countless other close family and friends.

Survivors include wife, Dixie Jones; his children, Matthew Jones (Leanne) and Amanda Jones; grandchildren, Zoe, Logan, Bryce and Peyton; his siblings, Audie Jones (Diane), Patsy English (Dennis); sister-in-law, Dot Carson (Russ); nephews, Chase Carson (Liz), Chris English (Rachel), Nathan Jones, Caleb English; nieces, Ashley Carson, Crystal Ramsey (Dustin), and Jessica Brown (Alan); as well as numerous, grand-nieces and nephews and closest friends/chosen family.

Jim grew up in various cities before settling down in Haughton, LA, where he met his future best friend for life, Dixie, at Haughton High School (HHS). Jim was the valedictorian of his graduating class at HHS in 1971. He graduated from Louisiana State University Shreveport in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Psychology.

He made the best decision of his life (his words) by marrying Dixie prior to his graduation. Jim dedicated his working life to medicine by serving as a pathologist’s assistant at Bossier Medical Center, the Bossier Parish Coroner’s office, Willis Knighton, and LSU Health Sciences Center. Jim made many friends over these years, including the pathology residents at LSUHSC. While there, he received a teaching award for his work with the residents.

He was also a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Bossier City. Jim raised two children, Matthew Jones and Amanda Jones, with equal measures of love and respect as he passed down his knowledge, love of nature, and the importance of family. Jim loved hunting early in his life, but chose to forgo it as his compassion for animals grew over time. This did not stop him from sharing his love of the land with others: he enjoyed helping friends and family with their marksmanship and riding tractors/atvs with them, as well as swapping tales at the camp with close friends.

Jim and Dixie also enjoyed exploring their land together, whether bush-hogging fields or identifying local flora and fauna. For entertainment, Jim enjoyed Westerns, poetry, and music, especially classic rock. (His Elvis impersonation, complete with bedazzled jumpsuit, was legendary.)

But he especially loved his grandchildren. Any time spent bragging about them or doting on them would light up his spirit. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and remember all the good memories you have shared with him. He was our James Howard, Jim, Jimbo, Jimmy-Jam, Dad, Daddoo, Grandpa, Uncle Jim and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Chris English, Caleb English, Nathan Jones, Kelvin Dunlop, Randy Tyson, Shane Dykes, and Logan Jones.

Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home on July 10 at 3:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m. Those who wish to honor Jim’s memory with a donation may contribute to Asbury United Methodist Church, 3200 Airline Drive, Bossier City, LA 71111; Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
