James J. Markes, Jr., 84, of Bossier City Louisiana, passed away November 15, 2023. He was born in Manhattan, New York on April 25, 1939 to the late James John Markes, Sr. and Sylvia Sophie Lewanloski Markes. James graduated from New York City High School and joined the United States Air Force. James and our family had the opportunity to travel and were stationed atMadrid Spain, Tokyo, Japan, and Portugal, Azores over his enlisted years. He made a career of working in the Air Force for twenty years. James was a member of Waller Baptist Church and had a passion for NFL, and any Veterans Memberships.
Left to cherish James’s wonderful memories are his four children: daughter Sharon Merkel, son James (John) Markes III, daughter Cynthia (Jimmy) Wells, son Joseph Markes; ten grandchildren: Jennifer (AL) Senior, Terry (Rhiannon) Holmes, Leia Luce, Joseph Luce, Jaeron Trussel, Jessica (Brett) Williams, Joshua Wells, Jacob (Emily) Wells, Jamie (Mike) Swanson of Idaho, Joanna (Mike) Morgan of Utah; nineteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson, many extended family members and numerous wonderful friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Henry (Holly) Ballister, first wife Euna Robinson, and second wife Linda Markes.
Memorials may be made in honor of James J. Markes, Jr. to any Veterans Association or charity of your choice.

A visitation for James will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 10:00 AM until time for his Celebration at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037.
Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Hill Crest Memorial Park, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana, 71037.
