

BOSSIER CITY, LA – James “Jim” Allen Strauss, age 68, passed from this life January 14, 2011 following a lengthy illness, with his loving wife and children at his side. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m., Asbury United Methodist Church, with Reverend Scott Adams presiding, and burial services at 2:30 p.m. at Harmony Chapel United Methodist Church, Dubach, Louisiana, where he will be laid to rest alongside his father-in-law Melvin Hood. Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, Haughton, Louisiana.
Jim was born on December 14, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Katy Schock and Henry Strauss, where he was raised with his brother, Tim. After graduating from West Tech High School, Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force and met the love of his life, Nancy Ann. Together, they raised their family throughout the United States and Great Britain. A proud Vietnam War veteran, Jim retired from the Air Force after twenty years of service, and moved to Bossier City, Louisiana, where he became a permanent resident. He was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge brother, and fanatic of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and LSU Tigers. He also enjoyed passing the time hunting, fishing, working on cars, and spending time with family.
Jim is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Nancy Ann Hood Strauss; son James Allen Strauss, Jr.; son Jerold Allen Strauss and his son Christopher Allen Strauss; and son Jeffrey Allen Strauss and wife Shelly Anne Dyer Strauss, who is expecting Jim’s second grandchild. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Oneta Hood; sister-in-law Susan Carmichael and husband John Carmichael III; niece Kristy Carmichael Coast and husband John Stewart Coast, and their daughters Maggie Kate and Molly Coast; and nephew John Carmichael IV. He also leaves behind extended family members ranging from Ohio to Canada.
Jim was preceded in death by parents Katy and Henry Strauss, and brother, Tim.
The family would like to extend special gratitude to Dr. San Pedro, Dr. Rodsuwan and numerous other physicians, nurses and therapists of Willis-Knighton Medical Center and Promise Hospital of Bossier City, who all assisted in his care during his illness.
Pallbearers will be Galey Honaker, Boyd Collins, Mike Morgan, Tom Davis, Brian Young, James Wiggins, Tom Carson, and Ronnie Lawrence. Honorary pallbearers are David Burroughs, Lee Carson, Jim Ramsey and Marty Bourgeois.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.
