Jane Dearing Roy passed away in Oxford, Mississippi, on April 22, 2018 at the home of her daughter and son in law, Glynna and John McKendree. Jane was a longtime educator in both Lafayette and Shreveport, Louisiana, prior to her retirement and continued in the field of education as a tutor to dozens of children from their early years of primary school until their successful graduation from high school. She was passionate about education and loved every single student who crossed her path both in the classroom and through the years of private tutoring. Teaching was her second career after many years spent in the field of medical technology. In the early 1960’s she returned to school to major in lower elementary education and upon graduation started teaching second grade and taught in both Lafayette and Caddo parishes before retiring from the Caddo Parish school system. Although it was difficult leaving so many life-long friends behind, in 2012 she decided to end her private tutoring programs and move to Oxford, Mississippi to begin a new life with her daughter and son in law. In Oxford she participated in many sewing and quilting projects and was a member of the Oxford First Presbyterian Church. There she met and made many new friends while taking part in a Presbyterian Women’s Circle.
