Jerry Wayne Coker was born on February 17, 1948 in Shreveport, LA. He passed away on February 18, 2010 of a fatal lung disease called Fibrosing Interstitial pneumonia. Jerry was such a positive, out-going person who loved his family very much. There wasn't anyone who didn't meet him that didn't instantly love him. He enjoyed playing on the computer and figuring out problems. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Service will be held at Hill Crest Funeral Home, Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will be Held Sunday, February 11, 2010 from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Hill Crest.
Jerry was born to Annie Lee Coker and grew up in the Benton area. He served in the Marine Corps in 1967 and served in Viet Nam for 18 months. He received the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1969 as a Corporal. He continued to serve inactive until 1973. He was the owner of Jerry's Appliance Service and served this community for more than 25 years. He also served in the South Bossier and Fire District 6 Fire Department as a volunteer for several years. He was a member of the Eastwood church of Christ congregation in Haughton.
Jerry Coker was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Lee, brother, Bryan Whaley of North Carolina, and special grandson, Kaleb Wayne Coker-Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pamela Kay Williams Coker, daughter Suzette Marie Coker Brown and husband Robert, son, Brandon Wayne Coker and wife Lauren, granddaughters; Savanna Marie Coker and Summer Michelle Coker, step-granddaughters: Julie Harold and husband Trey ,and Michelle Brown and step-grandson, Connor Bryson, and special friend Lou Lehman. He is also survived by his, sister, Gail Castelli and husband Gerald, sister Barbara Gann and husband G.W., brother, Allen Whaley and wife Audrey, sister Diane Mercer, and sister Lisa Moore and husband Larry.
The family wishes to extend the thanks to the employees if Willis Knighton Bossier ER, Dr. Craig Miller and Dr. Richard Kamm and staff for all their kindness and compassion during these difficult times.
