Jerry Paul Day

Jerry Paul Day, age 79, and resident of Haughton, LA, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday January 23rd, 2023, following a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry enjoyed time with his family and his dogs, who will miss him terribly. His favorite places were on a deer stand or in a boat. Jerry was an avid hunter and bowler. He loved photography, dancing, cruises, and scuba diving. He was a strong, compassionate, and calm presence for those around him. He worked at KCS Railroad in Maintenance of Way, retiring after 33 years. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 33 years, Rita Day; his daughters, Gwen Day, Shannon Day Weldon and husband Mark Weldon; step-daughters, Marilyn Gentry and husband Brad Gentry, Michelle Luquet and husband Jeff Luquet; step-son, Randy Fox; grandchildren, Randy Lee Fox and wife Morgan Fox, Jake Gentry, Tyler Gentry, Lacy Brevard and husband Dillon Brevard, Morgan Gentry and Brody Weldon; great-grandchildren, Weston Fox and Sage Brevard; brother, Mickey Day; sister, Peggy Day; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eloise Day. Services to celebrate Jerry’s life will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Justin Haigler of The Simple Church. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Brody Weldon, Randy Lee Fox, Tyler Gentry, Jake Gentry, Byron Bohannon and Dillon Brevard.
