Jimmy Lee Meier went to be with the Lord on August 18th 2012 with his family by his side, after a very courageous and determined battle with cancer. Jimmy was born August 19th 1952 to James Wm. and Christine Meier at Edwards Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA. For over 50 years he made Bossier City his home. He was a member of the Bossier High School Class of 1970, where he played football and was a member of the National Honor Society. He was a member of the first graduating class of LSU-Shreveport in 1975, earning a degree in biology.
In 1976, Jim began his career in the oil industry with Texaco/Chevron and was a Senior Drill Site Manager for International Operations. He loved the challenge of his career, which took him to the far corners of the world. His first international assignment was in Yemen at the start of the first Gulf War. He was in Moscow during the fall of the Soviet Union on his 39th birthday and also walked on the Great Wall of China. These are just a few of over 20 countries in which he worked during his 36-year career. His most recent assignment placed him in the North Sea working out of Aberdeen, Scotland.
Jimmy had a love of life and lived it to the fullest. He had a true passion for riding his Harley, hunting, fishing and recently scuba diving. He had a deep love and appreciation for God’s beauty and creations from his many travels and outdoor adventures.
His parents and his sister, Bobbie Hinshaw, preceded Jimmy in death. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 27 years, Dayna, and his sons Jimmy Lee, Jr., Jeffery Scott (Tamara), Jeremy Branton (Valerie), James Phillip (fiancé Amanda), four precious granddaughters; Clancy, Olivia, Cecilia, and Madeline; his sister Dee Meier Butts, and his brother John (Janet), and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Willis Knighton Cancer Treatment Center for their excellent care of Jimmy, and also a special thanks to Dr. Maxwell McDonald. Our sincere appreciation is expressed for the continued support and prayers from so many co-workers and friends during this difficult journey.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Funeral Home (Haughton, La). A private memorial service will be held with the family, officiated by Dave Fortuna.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Willis Knighton Cancer Treatment Center. Word of comfort may be shared at www.hillcrestmemorialfh.com
May his spirit have eternal peace and happiness with our Lord and Savior.
