A Mass of Christian Burial for John Truman Trammell, age 77, of Shreveport will be conducted 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 4736 Lyba Street in Shreveport, where Mr. Trammell was a longtime member. Celebrating the Mass will be Father John Paul Crispin. Final Rights of Interment will be conducted at Hill Crest Memorial Park with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Friday August 18, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the Rosary recited at 6:30 PM at Hill Crest Funeral Home Chapel.
John spent a great amount of time with his grandmother and his aunt, Byrdie Davies, who helped guide him in his early youth along with his parents; Lendon and Daniel Bell. A restaurateur; he was a café owner in Shreveport for many years later working for the Sheriff’s Department. John proudly served his county in the United States Air Force, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. A teacher in the Air Force, he had an intense love of flying and keeping up with aviation and aircraft specifications and designs.
John was a loving, caring, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. John was always ready to lend a listing ear and always had words of encouragement and advice. He enjoyed road trips greatly and loved to drive. Many memories were made on the road, with favorite trips to Disney World in Florida and Disney Land in California. An avid historian his most memorable adventure was the family’s trip to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC where he took in all the sites, spending hours taking in as much information as possible. A Great Story Teller, John always knew dates, times and events and enjoyed sharing them with anyone that would listen.
John is survived by his children, Craig Trammell, Shanti Trammell, Jonathan Trammell, and Veneitia Murray; grandchild, Haley Trammell; great grandchild, Khoury Mingo; cousins, Gwen and Brenda Davies; and Brenda Gooden.
Mr. Trammell is preceded in death by his loving and supportive wife, Beverly Gilyard Trammell who passed away in 2014 after 55 years of marriage. He is also preceded in death by a son Troy Trammell.
