Juanita was born to the proud parents George and Annie Watkins and, on Monday, July 29, 1929, in Damascus, MS.
Because of her, we knew true love. Unconditional love. She had nearly nothing and yet always managed to give so much to everyone she met. Truly like Jesus and the fish.
She taught us: Jesus Loves Me, from the time she was bouncing us on her lap. . She made everyone laugh, even in her last days. Even while suffering in her last hours, she only comforted others, saying to her baby boy-Earl Herrington: “Don’t cry”.
I never saw any human suffer so much and smile simultaneously with such joy through it. Her disposition was unnaturally joyful. She had a feisty red headed personality. Loved her tight jeans, red lipstick and painted nails. She loved the fish filet at McDonalds. She told dirty jokes. She was a phenomenal cook and an even more phenomenal mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother.
If God blesses me with grandchildren watch out! I vow to love like she did. She lavished love and kindness on everyone she met fearlessly, but especially her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren! She taught me that love can’t be bought or sold. She gave love freely and had an endless supply. She made our family close because she was the core and we were magnets drawn to her.
