LaVerne Rushing

She was born in Marshall, TX on June, 12, 1950 to William and Vineta (Worthington) Barnett. LaVerne was an agent for Caraway Travel for many years, and a love for travel grew. She was lucky to win the same drawing for a trip from work multiple times for a few years running. LaVerne was a lifelong volunteer. She was always the first to support her church, a good cause, underprivileged or our veterans. She was a faithful member of Simple Church and proudly offered to support the "Simply Serving" Life Group, and Light House in Florida.

LaVerne was the family planner, sports fan, cook for the masses and beloved matriarch. She attended games and supported the Mudbugs through their booster club as well as watching football, hockey and baseball on tv.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Vineta Barnett and son-in-law, George Grey, Jr.

LaVerne is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ray Rushing of Bossier City, LA; daughter, Mitzi Grey of Oak Grove, LA; son, Clint Rushing of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Jessica Cobb and husband Bryan of Oak Grove, LA, Madison Rushing of Mansfield, LA, Connor Grey of Oak Grove, LA and Blake Rushing of Shreveport, LA; sister, Anna Barnett Jones and husband Steve of Florida; niece, Jessica Watson and husband Rodney of Alaska and a multitude of friends that were considered family.

A visitation for her will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am with Justin Haigler officiating.

Pallbearers will be Leo Savage, Juan Arizmendez, Mike Roach, Ronald Key, Chris Carter and "Spud" Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Bryan Reed and Jerry Hawkins.
