We are sad to announce the passing of Laymon Darrell Sasser, Jr. of Bossier City, Louisiana. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force and served honorably and selflessly between 1986 and 2006 dedicating his life to defending the values of our nation and protecting our freedom. Laymon Darrell Sasser Jr. passed away at the age of 57 on June 28, 2023, surrounded by friends and family. He enjoyed making people laugh and most of all college basketball His favorite team is the Kentucky Wildcats and during college basketball season that’s all he could talk about.
Born on December 8, 1965, in Pineville Kentucky, Laymon Darrell Sasser Jr. graduated from Bell County High School and joined the United States Air Force in 1986. Laymon served with distinction, displaying unwavering dedication and bravery throughout his military career. He was deeply respected by his fellow service members and received several awards and commendations, to include: Humanitarian Service Medal W / 2 Bronze Star Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal W/2 OLC, FC Air Force Commendation Medal W/ 5 OLC, Meritorious Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, among others.
Laymon Darrell Sasser Jr will be dearly missed by his loving family. He is survived by: his wife, Yolanda Sasser; his sons, Laymon Darrell Sasser, III (Chasity Stewart, fiancé) and Joseph Micheal Sasser; his granddaughter Adelynn Faye Sasser; his step-children, Richard Flaherty, Catherine Flaherty, and Chris Flaherty; and his step-grandchildren, David Flaherty, Braydon Stewart, Brooke Blanton, Payton Eddings, Evan Nichols, Elliot Nichols and Ava Nichols; and his cousin Charlene Miller Hoskins.
He will forever be remembered as a devoted spouse, Father, and Grandfather, offering unconditional love and support to his family and friends. His legacy of strength, integrity, and compassion will continue to inspire generations to come.
Services in his honor will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 beginning with the Funeral at 10:30 am, held within the Chapel of Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, Haughton. There will also be a Committal Service at 1:30 pm, within the Pavillion of the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, with USAF Honors, Keithville.
