Services to pay tribute to her life begin at 1:30 pm, Thursday, July 15th, with a Gathering of Family and Friends, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 pm. All services will be held at Hill Crest Memorial, in Haughton, Louisiana.
Linda was born on February 21, 1941, in the small west Texas town of Nolan, to the proud parents Avery and Era Clayton. Linda was one of thirteen Clayton children raised in Nolan and Sweetwater. In her younger years she lived in a few other communities in far west Texas. Later, however, she made her way east to Northwest Louisiana settling in Haughton. Linda was employed at Louisiana Downs, in a career spanning over forty-five years, as she has been there since 1974, serving as a Mutuel Clerk. That may just be The Track Record !
Linda was an avid bowler and rarely missed League night at the Bowling Alley. When not working, and not on the lanes, on any given Sunday, she’d be tuned in for kick-off, as Linda was a die-hard, Dallas Cowboy’s fan. How ‘bout them Cowboys ! Linda greatly loved her family and was dearly loved by them, her many friends, and coworkers.
Linda was preceded by: father, Avery Clayton; mother, Era Magee Clayton; son, Robert Null; and husband John McKinney.
Mrs. McKinney is survived by: her son, Clay (& Katy) Brasher; and sisters, Gayle Skoruppa, Sherry Greve, and Sandi Apkarian, and numerous grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, and due to Linda having lost, both a son and a husband to cancer, the family ask that donations in Linda’s honor be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
“This isn’t about going back, it’s about life being ahead of you and you run at it ! Because you never know, how far you can go, unless you run.”
