Lloyd was a retired postal worker who dedicated many years to the U.S. Postal Service, earning the distinguished 40-Year Service Award. He worked through times of change, including the introduction of Zip codes at the post office. He also proudly served his country as a radar operator in the Army for two years. Even in his later years, he remained active and spirited; just this past year he rode his bicycle from the top of the hill on his street and coasted all the way down, simply to feel the wind in face.
He lived a full and meaningful 92 years and 5 months, devoting his life to the things he loved most—his family, his children, and the simple joy of making things grow. A passionate gardener, his favorites included a variety of tomatoes, especially the cherry tomatoes he planted along the driveway for convenient, tasty snacks. He also tended to satsuma oranges, purple hull peas, and pears with great care. His curiosity and love for growing things extended to flowers, and he built many greenhouses over the years to nurture them. He was just as handy with wood as he was with soil, always creating, building, and even winning the Ivey's Building Supply $500 give away—not once, but TWICE! Ever open to change and progress, he was the one who brought a microwave, and later a computer into the house. He remained curious and creative throughout his life, always seeking new things to grow, build, and share.
Lloyd is survived by his children Barbara L. Glay, Lloyd Randell Todd, wife Elizabeth, and Susan Kay McClain, husband Bobby; sisters Virginia Alice Whitaker and Norma Jean Rylan; brothers Donnie Todd and James Ralph Todd along with six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Bobbie H. Todd; second wife Mary Etta Bogan Todd; parents, Charlie Edgar Todd and Mary Louella Morgan Todd; brothers, Edward Todd and Neal Todd, and Barbara's late husband, son-in-law, John Lewis Glay.
