Louis L. Munn was born on February 5, 1938, in Bartow, Florida. He spent his childhood in Germantown, Tennessee, just outside Memphis, before his family later settled in Alabama. It was there that Louis met the love of his life, Bitsie. During her senior year of high school, their story began—Louis even taught her how to drive. The two were married in 1957, starting a life together filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
In 1968, Louis and Bitsie moved to Bossier City, Louisiana, where he worked as a general manager for TG&Y for 24 years. He later enjoyed an 18-year career in sales with Lincoln Mercury. Retirement at 62 didn’t slow him down—Louis kept busy driving cars for Enterprise, a job he loved because it allowed him to stay active, meet new people, and, of course, try out the newest cars.
One of Louis’s greatest joys was serving his church. For many years, he faithfully drove the church bus for Barksdale Baptist Church, then located on Barber Street. Each Sunday morning, he made sure children in the community had a ride to Sunday school, a ministry that brought him deep fulfillment.
To his family, Louis was “Pepaw,” a title he carried with pride and joy. He was happiest when surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren. His faith in the Lord was the steady foundation of his life, and he lived each day with a quiet strength, a generous spirit, and an unwavering love for his family.
Louis is survived by his devoted wife, Bitsie; his children, Russell Munn, Tim Munn, and Jennie Ashby; his sister, Rosemary Williams; his grandchildren Diane, Colton, Christy(Casey), and Tara(Colt); 16 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis E. Munn and Bernida “Granny” Valentine Loften; his son-in-law, Nathan Ashby.
Louis will be remembered as a man of faith, family, and integrity. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed. We will especially miss his contagious smile, which had a way of lighting up every room he entered.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Passages Hospice for the compassion, love, and support that made Louis’s final weeks at home peaceful and comfortable.
And finally, in true Pepaw fashion—we’ll keep smiling for our photos while saying “whiskey!” And of course… gotcha last.
A celebration of life honoring Louie Munn will be held Saturday September 27th, 2025 at 10:30am at Barksdale Baptist Church.
