Mark Gugliuzza, 59, of Benton, Louisiana went to his eternal home with our Lord and Savior on Monday, October 11, 2021 surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Mark was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 14, 1961. Upon graduation from Jesuit High School in Shreveport, he attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. There, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in general studies.

He began his career working in his family’s business, Gugliuzza Insurance Agency and later went into the pharmaceutical sales industry. He excelled in his pharmaceutical career and received many well deserved awards. Many of Mark’s colleagues have stated what a wonderful, loyal, constant, and encouraging leader he was.

Mark’s love for people of all walks of life were on full display at all times. His joy for life was immeasurable. He was the world’s biggest cut up and prankster! He also had a soft, gentle and serious side. Anytime that anyone needed help or simply a shoulder to lean on, Mark was always there with open arms— and always knew the right thing to do or say. Even throughout his illness, he kept a positive attitude, never complained, and always directed others towards Jesus.

His love for his family was the most important thing in Mark’s life. His children were his first priority, always. Mark loved traveling, watching LSU football, spending time on the lake, hunting, and fishing.

Mark has made a major impact on so many lives and he will be dearly missed by his family, many many friends, loved ones and ALL who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father Veto Gugliuzza, mother Lynn McPherson, brother Barry Gugliuzza, uncle Jim Wharton, family Betty Crow, Ken Gillam and numerous aunts and uncles that he loved dearly.

Mark and I first met at Louisiana Tech and were both Kappa Sigmas. He was a few years ahead of me and was always kind to be a mentor and offer help in any way. That continued when I was contemplating a career move into the medical/pharmaceutical industry and he once again was a great friend to offer his help. Although we were with separate companies throughout our careers, he was always someone that I could go to for sound advice. I will always remember his great smile and kind sincere demeanor. I know he loved the Lord, his family and his friends. God is getting a great one and I look forward to continuing our brotherhood one day in Heaven. Prayers for the entire family and much love.

God Bless,

Mark is responsible for my career change nearly 20 years ago. He was my first manager and mentor in sales at GSK and inspired me to want to lead and serve others. He loved to work hard & play hard. Over the last year we rekindled our friendship and I’m so grateful for that. I will never forget our time together in Bossier.

Rest easy my friend.

Mark was a truly remarkable man who cared for everyone and gave guidance when needed. I treasure the time we worked at GSK together and all the memories that were made. I am incredibly sad about mark leaving us but I know he is now with the lord. Rest in peace mark, you will be missed.

I had the opportunity of living next to him and his family on Booth Drive way back when. I appreciate the way Mark fought his battle till the end. Very positive and always willing to share the Love of Jesus during his illness. He taught me alot during his trial and tribulation that will ever stick with me. He was a dear friend of many and a servant of the Lord. I am deeply moved by his ongoing but, have to realize that God needed another angel in his kingdom. No more suffering, pain or strife but, a new body. He is now reunited with his dad, mom and Barry and what a reunion that will be. Thanks Mark for the memories and your unselfish ways of handling your illness. To GOD BE THE GLORY. I prayed for you every night granting God to give you peace without suffering. Good bye my friend, will see you again in HEAVEN!!

Mark was such a kind, funny, smart man. I had the pleasure of working with Mark on a leadership team at GSK. He had a great way of helping me understand everything I needed to know about the people and the business in Louisiana. Mark always had a twinkle in his eye and he was so positive. He put others before himself. The last text that I shared with him on September 15 when I asked him how he was feeling, he said "Great! How are you?" He never failed to ask me how I was doing, even as he was fighting to beat his disease. I will be forever grateful for the fact that God allowed me to work with Mark and to call him my friend. He will be missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family. I know when he entered heaven Jesus greeted him and now he is forever healed. We will see him again. Andi and Tanner, you served your Dad well. He had wonderful things to say about you both always. My prayers are with you both, and I hope you are comforted by all of the people that you can see your Dad touched in his time on earth. Sincerely, Kristie Callis

Words can’t even start to explain my appreciation for Mark & all the things he did for me. He was an incredible salesman, teacher, and friend. I genuinely wish we would’ve stayed closer over the past decade, but I, and my family, will always hold him dear to our hearts. All I can say is thanks for those early mornings in a restaurant booth spent teaching me how to be successful. Amazing dude! Love ya GuGu!

So many wonderful memories of times with Mark during my 26 years at GSK. Our paths crossed in many different roles in the company and I could always depend on Mark for an honest, heart felt assessment of any situation.
His humor was unmatched by anyone and oh, those STORIES he could tell!!! He was so much fun to be around.
God took our friend and now he is blessed with everlasting life, free of pain!
I know Mark will be looking down on all of us and nudging us in the right direction with his wisdom and maybe even some jokes! Listen closely in the wind!!
Prayers for his children and family because I know you loved him dearly and will miss him immensely.
Till we meet again one day…peace my friend.

I met Mark as a nurse at Ochsner’s~ he touched my heart immediately. He had that kind of effect on everyone he met. I’m so sorry to know he’s left us and lost the earthly battle~ but we all will take comfort in knowing he is in Heaven with no more pain, with Jesus. It was such a blessing to have known him. Prayers for his family!
