A celebration of life for Mary “June” Thornton will be held at First Baptist Bossier on April 7, 2022 at 11:00am. Officiating will be Joe Whitney and Sonny DePrang, visitation will be held at First Baptist Bossier from 10:00 am until 11:00 am prior to services. Interment will be held following services at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
June was born June 11th, 1935 to Dr. A.D Hilton and Margaret McSweeney in Prescott, Arkansas. After graduating from high school in 1953 she moved to Shreveport to attend Ayers Business School. After completing her school she began working at Ark-La Gas until getting married and starting her family. After all four of her beloved children were attending school she began working as a secretary at Bossier Vocational School, later changing names to Bossier Alternative School, lastly before retiring Charlotte Ann Mitchell Educational school where she retired after 37 years.
June was a devoted member of First Bossier for over 55 years, active in her singles group where she gained lifelong friends and enjoyed singing in the choir. There is nothing she loved more than her children and grandchildren, love of Christ, playing pokeno with friends, a good game of solitare, & watching LSU Tigers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Donna Dickey; daughter in law, Marlene Thornton; son, Blake Thornton; and grandson, Chad Thornton.
Left to cherish her memory is her brother Gary Hilton, and wife Sue, daughter, Leslie Crowell; son, William Eric Thornton; son, Noel Anthony “Tony” Thornton and wife Dana; daughter-in-law Jeanette Thornton; grandchildren, Jeremy Thornton, Amanda Thornton, Natalie Crowell (James), Jessica Thornton, Cameron Thornton, and Alyssa Thornton; and great-grandchildren Cason Stephens and Colton Thornton.
Pallbearers for June will be Cameron Thornton, Aaron Baker, James Gray, Joshua Dickey, Aaron “Dar” Robinette, Kevin Gray, Chase Freeman and Chad Hampton.
