Mary Ann Gugluizza Waggoner, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on February 24th, 2024 at 8:30 A.M. in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born on July 17th, 1931 in Bossier City to the late Tony Gugliuzza and Annie Montalbano Gugliuzza.
Mary was preceded in passing by her parents; her beloved husband, Cairl Wayne Waggoner; one daughter, Shelia Ann Hake; one great-granddaughter, Landry Clark; two great-grandsons, Paxton Williams and Drake Richter; three sisters, Lena Hester, Minnie Able, Josephine Force; two brothers, Veto Gugluizza, and Sammy Gugluizza.
Left to cherish Mary’s beautiful memories are one son, David Waggoner and MiAnn McEachern; son-in-law, Alan Hake; daughter-in-law, Melissa Waggoner; five grandchildren, Courtney Clark, Megan Waggoner, Mallory Williams, Shannon Harrell, and Shelby Ansley; as well as ten great-grandchildren: Emory Barnes, Daegan Williams, Layton Waggoner, Elijah Waggoner, Cameryn Richter, Judson Clark, Mary Amelia Williams, Brody Clark, Rowan Harrell, and Carson Richter; along with many extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Mary's devotion to her loved ones was unparalleled. She cherished every moment spent with them and found immense joy in their company. Her heart overflowed with love for her family.
Her passion for sports was evident throughout her life. From excelling in women’s basketball and softball during her time at Bossier High School to being an avid supporter of various sporting events later in life – Mary's spirit shined through the world of athletics. In addition to sports, dancing brought immeasurable happiness into Mary's life. Whether it was at the VFW or any other gathering where music played – she would light up the room with her infectious energy on the dance floor.
However, above all else stood Mary's unwavering faith. She was a devoted member of Christ the King Church where she found solace in prayer while holding onto her rosary tightly whenever possible until she took her last breath. Her commitment to Catholicism defined much of who she was as a person.
After graduating from Norton Business College with a degree that led to a successful career at Hormel as a bookkeeper for thirty-one years before retiring - Mary dedicated herself wholeheartedly to serving others within the community by volunteering at VFW Post 4588 and participating actively in activities organized by Council on Aging.
Visitation services will be held on Wednesday, February 28th at 10:00A.M., followed by funeral services starting at 11:00 A.M. at Hill Crest Memorial, Haughton. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to either VFW or Council on Aging - two places that were dear to Mary’s heart throughout different stages of her life.
