Mary loved helping people and worked as a LPN at Highland Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana for over 20 years, beginning in 1978. While in LPN school she also worked as a nurse's aid and did private duty nursing.
Mary’s life was filled with memories with her five children, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and beloved pets, including Wrinkles, her precious Chihuahua. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing bingo and skip-bo, gardening and canning, doing Mary Kay, taking mini-vacations, singing in church and enjoying classic country and gospel music.
She joins her children, son Daniel Winchel and daughter Carol Burrows, in Heaven. Her son, Johnny Winchel of Bossier City, daughter Diane Winchel of Haughton, daughter Tame Austin of Winona, Minnesota, sister Ruth Filley of LaCoste, Texas, and sister Betty Ormand of San Antonio, Texas, all look forward to the day we are all reunited in Heaven as a family in Jesus Christ again.
Mary’s family wishes to thank Dr. Henry Kiser and the nursing staff of Willis Knighton Bossier for their attention to detail, patience, and loving care for Mary in her final days preparing to go home this week. By the grace of Jesus Christ we are comforted. “For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.
Services in her honor will be held at Hill Crest in Haughton, beginning with a Visitation at 1:00pm; then the Funeral at 2:00; followed by Interment in the Cemetery. Each will occur on Wednesday, November 23nd.
