Mead Hargis Boydstun, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2021, in Shreveport, LA from a short battle with cancer. He was an educator throughout most of his working career. Mead was born in Natchitoches, LA on March 12 1929, to Benjamin Kendall Boydstun and Eunice Augustus Hargis Boydstun. Mead attended Natchitoches High School and graduated in May 1946. Immediately after high school, he joined the Marine Corps as World War II was winding down. A few years later, Peel as he was known, was drafted into the U.S. Army Artillery section at the beginning of the Korean War. He was stationed near San Antonio, TX in 1950 and married Annie Lucille Guillot of Alexandria, LA. He achieved the rank of Corporal in 1951, and served at the White Sands Missile Range. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1953 they moved to Shreveport, LA. He attended Northwestern State College and received his Bachelor degree in Education in 1955. He taught at several high schools in Shreveport, LA. Mead began teaching at Byrd High School from 1957 to 1960 and then Woodlawn High School until 1967 and returning to Natchitoches to raise their four children. He received a Master’s degree in Education in 1969 from Northwestern. He taught at Natchitoches Junior High, Principal at Natchitoches Academy and taught math at Natchitoches Central High School from 1971 until retiring from teaching in 1986, and moved to Bossier City where he married Margaret Babcock. They resided in the Shady Grove Community of Bossier for many years enjoying daily walks through the neighborhood, gardening and doing yard work. He could always be heard whistling or humming a tune during most everything he did. He attended Bellaire Baptist Church in Bossier City, serving as an usher for several years. Mead resided in the Chateau Montclair Memory care facility with Margaret until his time of death.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, or Caroline as some call her; her daughter, Debbie Whittington and her two sons Jamey Merritt and Joel Merritt of Bossier City; his four children, Cheryl Hamilton and her husband Jerry of New Braunfels, TX and their sons Chris and Tom; Cathy Finder of Racine, WI and her daughter Shelly; Mike Boydstun and his wife JoAnne of Many, LA and their three children Molly Lee of Bossier City, Emily Rains of Many, LA and Joe Boydstun of Many, LA; Mark Boydstun and his wife Janie of Bossier City and their two children Matt Boydstun of Benton and Melanie Poole of Shreveport.
Interment will be at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, LA located at 601 U.S. Highway 80 East on Sunday, December 5, 2021. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 12:30 to 2:00 pm and graveside services immediately following. The pastor of Bellaire Baptist Church, Dr. Randy Harper, will be officiating the funeral services. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joe Boydstun, Matt Boydstun, Chris Hamilton, and Tom Hamilton; great-grandson, Kent Rains; and step-grandsons, Joel Merritt and Jamey Merritt.
