A visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Haughton on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 12:30 p.m., until time of service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
Patsy was born on May 19, 1936, in Simsboro, Louisiana to Willie and Earl McGuire. She grew up and attended school in Simsboro. It is there that she excelled academically as Valedictorian of her class and met her husband, Jap. Patsy and Jap were married on September 11, 1955, while working on their degrees in Education from Louisiana Tech University. Patsy went on to obtain her Master’s degree along with an additional 30 hours of course work. She began her teaching career at Rusheon Junior High and Greenacres Junior High and then moved to Haughton High School where she served as the librarian for 31 years.
Patsy or Nanny as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. She knew the importance of her relationship with God and instilled that in her family. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years and faithfully served at First Baptist Haughton throughout her 70 years in that community.
Nanny was a wonderful cook. She made many Sunday Dinners for her family and was well known for her chocolate pies that she would make and deliver to anyone in a time of need. Her chocolate Pies always went for top dollar at any church auction.
She sewed and smocked meticulously and made numerous outfits for her daughter and grandchildren. She made baby blankets that she loved to give for any baby shower, which affectionately became known as “Nanny Blankets”. She also loved to crochet and if she was sitting down her hands were never idle.
Nanny was happiest when she was taking care of her grandchildren and they all loved her beyond measure.
Patsy is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Earl McGuire, Sister, Edna Earl Mays (Revis) and her brother, Samuel “Bo” McGuire.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Jap Gullatt, Jr., sons, Steve (Denise) and Patrick (Terri) Gullatt and daughter, Susan (Stanley) Dupuy, grandchildren, Natalie (Nathan) Brixey, Kevin (Kellie), Joe (Erin), Taylor (Shae) and Sam (Nikki) Gullatt, Daniel (Katie) Dupuy and Rebecca (Deano) Casola, 17 Great grandchildren, and sisters in law Diane McGuire and Gloria Gullatt, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
In honor of Patsy, serving as Pallbearers will be Kevin Gullatt, Joe Gullatt, Taylor Gullatt, Daniel Dupuy, Sam Gullatt, Nathan Brixey, and Deano Casola.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Brookdale Assisted Living and Memory Care. Also, Nurse Candy from Christus Hospice.
Memorial gifts may be sent to the First Baptist Church Haughton Missions Fund.
