

Paul was called home to his Lord on July 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Dunbar, West Virginia on January 27, 1930 to Vernon and Fannie (Smith) Byrd. He lived a life filled with joy, love and laughter.
After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 21 and a half years. He ultimately retired as a Master Sergeant.
He met and fell in love with Maureen Hermes and they married on June 27, 1953. Together, they had five children who will cherish his memory, Donna Fulco, Susan McCain and husband Winston, Cindy Leon and husband Joey, Paul Byrd Jr. and wife Elizabeth, and Scott Byrd and wife Kim. His children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren were the joy of his life.
He is survived by his brother, Gene (Dorothy) Byrd; 5 children, 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Paul is preceded in death by his wife Maureen Byrd; parents, Vernon and Fannie Byrd; brothers, Donnie Byrd, Gary Byrd; sisters, Garnet Seems, Goldie Miller, Doris Manbeavers, June Taylor, and Dreama Sloan; grandson, Weldon "Trey" McCain; granddaughter, Angela Cunningham.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Graveside Services will be 10:00 am Monday, July 20, 2026 at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Paul Byrd, Jr., Scott Byrd, Wayne Brian, Matthew Vitalone, Joey Leon and Jerry Trujillo.
