Philip R Volz

Everyone who knew Phil knew he would do anything for them—and for many, he did. He approached life with steady devotion and a craftsman’s pride, able to do virtually anything from rebuilding a car to building a house. Whatever he set out to do, he gave his all, with the careful eye of a perfectionist and the skill of a true artisan.

Phil was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He served during the Vietnam War, moved often in the course of duty, and completed a distinguished 23-year career, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt) at the NCO academy at Barksdale AFB.

After his Air Force service, Phil carried forward the skills he had honed throughout his life into a second career as a carpenter. He worked for Don Crawley Remodeling and later established his own business, Lasting Impressions Remodeling—work that reflected the same discipline, care, and high standards that defined him.

In retirement, Phil became wholeheartedly involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, dedicating himself to helping veterans in need. His commitment and leadership ultimately led him to serve as Louisiana State Commander.

Phil was preceded in death by Sally L. Volz (wife), Timothy P. Volz (son), and Peter K Volz (brother). He is survived by Karin L. Monse (daughter), Mark R Volz (son), and Melissa A. Volz (daughter in law); and by his grandchildren, William R. Volz, Matthew E. Volz, Cody M. Green, Sarah M. Green, and Hudson R. Volz.

A loving husband, a devoted father, and a wonderful “Gramps,” Phil will be dearly missed.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 22nd from 5 until 7 pm at Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton, Louisiana.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted Thursday, July 23rd at 10 am in the chapel of Hill Crest Funeral Home with burial following at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
