Raymond Sollars, 79, of Bossier City , Louisiana died peacefully at his home on December 19, 2019 after a brief battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his family. He was born in Saint Joseph, MO on July 5, 1940, the youngest son of Warren and Edith Sollars.
Raymond joined the U.S. Army in 1957. He served in Vietnam and retired in 1977 after 20 years of service to his country. He started his own appliance repair business in Bossier City, which he successfully ran for over 20 years. He took great pride in his military service.
Left to cherish his memory is Iris, the love of his life for 57 years. He is also survived by his daughters, Cindy Vrbka and husband Mark, Christine Turner and husband Jerry, and Carol Mowat and husband Oliver; grandchildren, Steven Vrbka and wife Andi, Kristin Wilson and husband Garrett, Matthew Turner, Marc Turner, Michael Turner, Mitchell Turner, Adam Wilson, Oliver Mowat V and wife Samantha; great granddaughters, Landry and Reagan Wilson, Claire and Colleen Vrbka; sister, Beulah (Marie) Dyer and husband Don.
He was preceded in death by parents, Warren and Edith Sollars; stepmother, Francis Sollars; aunt, Hilda and uncle, Dee Nowak; brothers, Don Sollars, Franklin Sollars, Dale Sollars, and Paul Sollars.
Raymond was very active and loved watching and playing all sports, especially basketball. He enjoyed his daily pick- up games at the base gym. Every year he celebrated his birthday at the beach surrounded by his family and friends. The highlight of the trip was the annual ladder ball tournament playing alongside his children and grandchildren.
Raymond was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be greatly missed.
He was known as “Papaw Ray” to his family, extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Oliver Mowat. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters.
