

A visitation for Bob will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Bellaire Baptist Church,1210 Bellaire Blvd., Bossier City, Louisiana, with Dr. Randy Harper officiating.
Bob was born on March 28, 1955 in Spokane, WA. Bob was a devoted husband and loving grandfather. He spread joy and happiness where ever he went. He touched the lives of all who knew him and was a man of immense humor and wisdom cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. Bob always had a positive attitude and a smile on his face. He was the most loving, kind, caring, supportive and special husband. He was a proud man and a man of great integrity. Most importantly, he was a Godly man displaying the fruit of the spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone.
Bob owned and operated J&R Express Inc. for 20 years, After he semi-retired, he kept his favorite truck "Blackie" and drove independently for over a million miles, keeping the odometer for proof. His passion for trucking led him to mentoring family and friends into the trucking business. He was an advocate for dedicating his time and resources in to creating successful careers for all he mentored. Bob will be missed by all his family and friends leaving behind a legacy of strength, warmth and kindness. Bob dedicated his time and resources to making this world a better place for others. He found beauty in life's simple moments. Bob's favorite saying was always "If you think you know the road, it will teach you a lesson." Bob will be sadly missed by all who knew him. His absence leaves a void in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and James Hovingh; sister Arlene Purdie and step daughter, Shannon Rupert.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Susan Hovingh; grandson Chance Rupert (who he absolutely adored); brother, John Hovingh and wife Janice; sister, Marlene Cooney and husband Stephen; nephews, Ronnie Adams and Jackson Purdie; nieces, Rebekah Smith and Melissa Purdie; great nephews, Jeremiah and Steven Adams.
