Robert Joseph Smetana Jr.

ELM GROVE, LA - Robert J. Smetana Jr. was known to his family and friends as “Bobby”, to his grandchildren he was “Papaw”, and to his great grandchildren he was “G”. He was born on November 26, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland to Robert J. and Vivian (Lloyd) Smetana and passed away suddenly on Monday, September 7, 2015, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Services will be held on September 12, 2015, at 11 o’clock in the morning at Hill Crest Memorial Park located at 601 US-80, Haughton, LA 71037.

He moved from Maryland to Louisiana in 1981, to continue his career with General Motors where he retired in 2009, as a business manager.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 21 years, Patricia “Patti” Alderson, who he married on December 31, 1993; his stepsons, Scott R. Durfee and wife Sherry of Shreveport, Louisiana, Jason A. Durfee and wife Kim of Benton, Louisiana, and Justin J. Durfee and wife Natasha of Bossier City; which he loved and thought of as his own; two brothers, Gary Smetana and wife Elizabeth of Florence, South Carolina; Mark Smetana and wife Jean of Maryland; his sister, Michelle “Shelly” Smetana Townsley and husband Greg of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Teres Smetana of Blue Springs, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Brian and fiancé Maggie, Nathan, Scarlett, Samantha and husband Quinton, Christian and fiancé Erica, Haley, Dakota, Hayden, Makenzie, and Justin; four great grandchildren Kaiden, Stryder, Zoey, and Emma, as well as, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jeffrey Smetana.

He will always be remembered as an intelligent, loving, and caring man with a big smile, an infectious laugh, and his playful ways.
