
Memorial services for Roy E. Mitchell, Jr. will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at First United Methodist Church of Bossier City with Rev. David Dietzel, pastor, officiating. Private graveside services will be in Hill Crest Memorial Park.
Mr. Mitchell was born August 10, 1926 in England, Arkansas to parents Myrtle (Nicholson) and Roy E. Mitchell, Sr. and passed away at his home in Bossier City, Monday, January 28, 2013. After the devastating flood of 1927 his family moved to Homer, LA where he graduated from Homer High School in 1943 and received a B. S. Degree in Civil Engineering from Louisiana Tech in 1949. He served his country for 2 years in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his discharge he was employed by Arkansas Fuel Oil as Computing and Layout Engineer. He later worked for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development as Project Engineer, District Engineer, and eventually Chief Engineer for the State of Louisiana. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bossier City.
Mr. Mitchell was married to Margaret Loraine Matlock Mitchell for 59 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gerald Mitchell, sisters, Mary Jim Taylor and Virginia Handley, and granddaugher Susan Loraine Core. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his daughter, Laura Core and son-in-law Dr. Dan Core, son, Rev. James William Mitchell and daughter-in-law Delaine Mitchell, brother, Farris Mitchell and wife Rheba. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Randall Core, Jacob Core and wife Jo, Daniel Core, Patrick Mitchell.
