Celebration of life services will be held for Roy Clark Squyres at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Open Road Fellowship Church, 780 Bodcau Station Rd. in Haughton, LA, with Pastor Raymond Wilkinson officiating.
Roy Squyres was born on April 21, 1941 at Ft. Sam Houston, TX to Clark and Mertie Squyres. Roy served 21 years in the United States Air Force in Communications, where he and his beautiful bride, Jimmie, shared adventures that took them to all corners of the world. Roy carried his significant skills with him to Lockheed Martin where he retired from his position as a Senior Engineer at after 17 years. A lover of learning, he attended Bossier Parish Community College as a non-traditional student for many classes covering computing and communications, where he was a favorite of all his classmates. An avid photographer, and electronics and technology buff, Roy developed countless projects and shared his creativity and passion with all those he loved. Though Roy had the high honor to serve with White House Communications during his tenure in the Air Force, his greatest accomplishment was the passion he shared, his love of Jesus. He volunteered as a sound engineer for the Christian Band, By the Tree, and loved telling the story of their playing at a prison, in particular. In retirement, though most would settle in, his heart for service led him to take on more great adventures with Jimmie – putting on children and teen camps all over the south, setting up huge sound stages, and even driving their clunker bus. Other than loving his family, these adventures brought him the greatest joy. Roy never met a stranger and meant so much to so many in his community. After 81 years of life filled with love and joy, he would share with us that he’s been issued a change of address to be with his Lord and Savior.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Mertie Squyres, and younger brother, Ted Squyres.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jimmie Squyres; children, Alan (Becca) Squyres, Lois (Darrell) Kindley, and Tommy (Charli) Squyres; grandchildren, Matthew (Allison) Kindley, Jacob (Katie) Squyres, Chelsea (Scott) Waldheim, Jenna (Kevin) Henchey, and Jordan (Elias) Sapp; great-grandchildren, Rylie, Jack, Jacen, Laney and Taylor.
The family would like to thank Raymond Wilkinson and their Open Road Fellowship Church family for their significant and unfailing support, love, and care of Roy and Jimmie.
Memorial contributions may be made to Open Road Fellowship Church.
