Haughton, LA – Services for retired CMSGT Tom Bill Bourn, 79, will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, Haughton, Louisiana, on Sunday November 18, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. with Minister Norman Moore officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving visitors from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday November 17, 2012 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.

Bill was born on June 8, 1933, in Norphlet, Arkansas and died Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City, Louisiana.

He served in the United States Air Force for 28 years, 6 months, and 10 days, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. After his military retirement, he worked as a service advisor for 15 years at area car dealerships. Mr. Bourn was known for his honesty and integrity, and the world will be a worse place without him in it.

As a retired aircraft mechanic, he loved to work with his hands and to do for others. He mowed the grass for years at Eastwood Church of Christ on Highway 80 in Haughton, where he was a member. He built picnic tables, had a large vegetable garden, and enjoyed small engine repair, providing many repaired lawn mowers to widows in the area. He led a life of quiet service to others, and he was an example to many.

Bill Bourn was a wonderful father who took his family on many camping and fishing trips wherever he was stationed in the Air Force and, in later years, to his camp at Toledo Bend.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Wyvonne Bourn of Haughton, LA; his devoted daughter Debra Norris and husband Clift of Houston, TX; his eldest son James Michael Bourn, wife Karen, and granddaughters Madison and Regan Bourn of Glen Allen, VA; his youngest son Billy Wayne Bourn, wife Ashley, grandson Logan and granddaughter Taylor Bourn of Haughton, LA; his devoted brother- and sister-in-law Lowell and Gwen Price of Hot Springs, AR; his sisters Mary Downs of Magnolia, AR, and Frances Murphy of McNeil, AR; his sisters-in-law Judy Bourn of Brownfield, TX, Mary Jane Bourn of El Dorado, AR, and Kathryn McGriff of Austin, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to private sitter Lisa Windham who provided comfort and care in his last year of Alzheimer’s disease.

It was not long after Bill and Wyvonne moved next door, that we soon realized what a wonderful, caring and Christian family we would have for neighbors. We will miss seeing Bill outside, burning in the back yard, working his garden, tinkering on his lawn mowers and blowing and mowing the yard every time a leaf fell. Most of all we will miss your friendship, the things you did for us, your smile and your gentleness. The world lost a good man, but the kingdom of God gained a GREAT one. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord let His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace.

Just wanted to offer my condolences. I remember moving here in 1979 from Georgia, and attending Bennett Street Church of Christ. The Bourns and all the members of the Church were so friendly and welcomed my family. It meant so much to have such genuinely kind, warm, people welcoming us to the Congregation. I have so many fond memories of Mr. Bourn. Just a nice nice man. I am so sorry for your loss. If there is anything at all I can do please let me know! Karen (Crutchfield) Malone.

I never had a brother but this man took me under his wings not only as a brother, but a brother in Christ. He was the kindest, most caring and giving man I have ever known. I thank the Almighty God for you Bill Bourn. I know that your are at peace and in a blissful state. I look forward to joining you soon. James 4:14 "For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." You will be missed by all those who knew you. Your comrade in arms, brother in Christ and brother-in-law.
