Ventrice was born in Coushatta, LA on March 29, 1930 to Walter and Valentine Pickett Dickson. She was number 7 of 10 children, and the youngest girl. She learned many valuable things growing up on a farm....how to cook, sew, and take care of a family being the most important. She graduated at the top of her class of 16 students from Fairview Alpha school and then made the big move to Shreveport where she attended business school and going to work at Swift and Company. She met and married James B. Grant during that time. She became an Air Force wife and travelled to many places and having her family along the way. Upon retirement from the Air Force, they made a home in Bossier City and got a surprise 5th child.
She was a homemaker and she made a wonderful home for her family. She was an amazing cook, Sunday roast beef and gravy was on the menu many a week, Christmas cookies, pies and cakes were specialties and chicken and dumplings were a treat not to be missed by her family. She was a great seamstress, making many many clothes for her family. There wasn’t a thing she wouldn’t tackle, she even made a wedding dress for one of her great nieces. Little girl things were her favorite to make and when there were no longer little girls to sew for, she turned her talents into making things for less fortunate children. She would make dresses, shorts, shirts, coats, etc. And donate them to Providence House and other childrens organizations.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Grant; daughters, Charlotte and Freida; granddaughter, Rachel, great granddaughter Kalynn, great great-granddaughter, Sofia and 7 of her sisters and brothers.
Ventrice is survived by her daughter, Brenda and husband Doug of Hartselle, Alabama; son, Walter and wife Kristi of Bossier City; daughter, Cherie and husband Greg of Bossier City; grandchildren, Ben and wife Melissa, Jason, Austin and wife Tiffany, Staci, Jeff and wife Amanda, Amber and husband Adam and James, many great and great grandchildren and a great grandson very dear to her heart, Carson.
The family would like to thank the staff of Willis Knighton Pierremont 7th floor for their tender care in the last days and to the staff of Pilgrim Manor nursing home. They would also like to thank Drs. Randy Del Mundo, H. Desai and William Haynie for their wonderful care over the last several years

I loved Mrs Grant. When I first met her years ago she told me I could call her “mom”. She made me feel like part of the family. I’ll miss our dinners at El Mariachi. Praying for the family to help them through this difficult time.

Mrs Grant was my neighbor for years. Her & Mr Grant always watch over us when my husband was deployed. She always had the best pecans & shared them with all of us on Viosca. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
