

Born on July 25, 1948, Wayne was kind-hearted, hard-working, thoughtful, resilient, and gentle throughout a life marked by steady devotion to family, service, and the people around him.
Wayne attended Bossier High School and graduated from Airline High School in 1966. He was an outstanding athlete on the football field.
He attended Louisiana Tech before joining the United States Marines and serving in Vietnam. Wayne achieved the rank of Sergeant and earned multiple medals, including the Aircrewmen's Wings for flying into combat zones to extract combat Marines.
Wayne worked with his father, Huey P. Childs, as a lead carpenter for several years. He also served as a Deputy Sheriff for Bossier Parish for several years. He later began his career offshore as a roustabout, moving quickly up the ladder to Derrick Hand, then to Driller. His offshore career spanned 33 years, retiring as a Safety Representative.
Wayne married Linda Trichel in 1976. He was a father to Michelle, Brandy, and Matt.
Wayne loved horses—both riding and training—and he was an avid outdoorsman who particularly loved deer hunting. He enjoyed watching football, especially college games, and he was a devoted fan of his LSU Tigers. He was also an avid fan of boxing.
In daily life, Wayne was known for being helpful to anyone in need—family, friends, or strangers alike.
He was preceded in death by his father, Huey P. Childs; mother, Betty Jane Moody; brother, Michael Childs and nephew, Cameron Childs.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda T. Childs; daughters, Michelle Childs Tannehill and husband Scott, and Brandy Childs Boudreau; son, Matt Childs and wife Brittany; grandchildren, Polly Hanson, Lauren Adams, Layton Huddleston, Brandon Childs, Bailey Boudreau Barr, Nolan Boudreau and Carson Boudreau; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Wandra Childs and Becky Emerson; and brothers, Jay Childs and Todd Childs, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Visitation will be held at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bossier City on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. A Funeral Mass will follow beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will be held at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clark Rd., Keithville, Louisiana at 1:30 pm.
Pallbearers will be Nolan Boudreau, Carson Boudreau, Damon Boudreau, Tom Moon, Madison Barr and Brandon Childs.
