He was born in Birmingham, AL on July 20, 1943. He graduated high school in Montevallo, AL in 1961. After graduating High School, young Mr. Birchfield attended Montevallo College and soon after enlisted in the Air Force. He served twenty years and retired as a Master Sergeant, and begin a new career with the United States Postal Service, as a second full career, where he ultimately retired--a 2nd time-- from the postal service, in 2008. Later, he proudly served five years as a Member of the Bossier Parish Sheriffs Posse.
'Bill', as he was affectionately known, enjoyed gardening and driving fast. He loved time spent with his family and with his cats. Bill loved to travel and spend time with his friends and expressed the blessing of having had the opportunity to travel and see the world. Bill was a brilliant man and could do anything. His father was a carpenter; his Lord was a carpenter; and Bill was a "Chip off the Old Block' from both ! Mr. Birchfield was committed to his Lord Jesus Christ and went on several mission trips and currently was a member at Airline Baptist, in Bossier City.
William was preceded in death by his parents, William Pierce Birchfield. and Ann Maurine Terrell Birchfield and two sisters, Klarien Day Birchfield and Ann Elizabeth Rochester.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Birchfield; children, William P. “Trey” Birchfield, III and Lee Lindsay Slansky and husband Bob; grandchildren, Derek Thrasher, Krystyn Oliver and husband Derek, Sara Sayers, Peyton Birchfield and Jayden Birchfield and great grandchild, Kennedy Prescott. Also left to cherish his memory are numerous nieces, nephews, extended friends, Airline Baptist family, and his faithful furry friends: Boudreaux and Buddy.
Services will be held to celebrate the life of William Pierce Birchfield, Jr. at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Harrell Shelton, Associate Pastor of Airline Baptist presiding and assisted by Terry Young, Senior Minister of Airline Baptist. The Committal Service will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the funeral home. The Funeral Service will be streamed live, on Facebook on the Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery Facebook page.
Bill deeply loved people--so many people and people loved Bill. He will be deeply missed by many.
