November 1, 1945 - January 4, 2022
Haughton, Louisiana
Bob Elrod, 76, of Haughton, LA, passed away at Willis Knighton Hospital on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. He went into the hospital shortly after Christmas with pneumonia which quickly led to other unexpected heart and lung complications.
Bob was born on November 1, 1945 to Elizabeth and Jack Elrod, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was raised and attended school in Bossier City, Louisiana; attending Rusheon Jr. High and Bossier High School before enlisting in the Army Reserves. He then followed in the footsteps of his father and his grandfather by working many years as a telephone engineer for the Western Electric Company. He later became a contract employee with other communications companies and traveled to cities across the country as well as overseas to Saudi Arabia. After retirement and in keeping with his lifelong hobby, Bob became a firearms dealer in his hometown of Haughton. A true outdoorsman, his passion for hunting and fishing never waned throughout his life; whether it was the thrill of a lifetime exploring big game on an African safari, bear hunting in Idaho, caribou hunting in Canada, fishing trips to Mexico and other favorite spots down south as well as next-door to Lake Bistineau, or sitting in his beloved deer stand behind his house, Bob loved it all. He also loved to share in his successful outings and was known to host ‘organic pork’ cookouts, as he liked to call it. He also cared deeply for his family and friends. He was always available to help anyone who asked him and regularly sought out others in need to whom he would give freely. He loved to surprise and bring joy to others without needing or wanting recognition for it. He would be amazed to know just how many people will remember and miss him dearly.
Bob was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Elizabeth (Libby). He is survived by his sisters, Jacquelin (Jackie) Wissman and Mary Beth Bradford; his ex-wife, Judy Doty; his daughters, Annette Taylor and Melanie Carpenter; his son-in-laws, Kevin Taylor and Trae Carpenter; his brother-in-laws, Mike Collins, Bill Wissman, and John-Paul Bradford; his grandsons, Ashdon Taylor and Andrew Carpenter; his granddaughter, Kara Taylor; his nephews, Michael Teschner and John Bradford; his niece, Lauren Bradford; and many close and trusted friends.
A celebration to honor Bob’s life and to scatter his ashes will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at 2078 Arkla Plant Rd, Haughton, Louisiana, 71037. We will meet at Bob’s deer stand behind the house. Signs for parking will be posted.
