Randy was born on August 7, 1949, in Minden, Louisiana, to Sam and Gladys Logan. He spent his life rooted in Louisiana, raising his family and welcoming anyone who crossed his path. A longtime resident of Haughton, LA, he was known by many names—Randy to friends, Daddy to his girls, and Papaw to a whole new generation—but no matter what you called him, you knew you were loved.
For 57 years, Randy was married to the love of his life, Shirley Logan. He loved her deeply and faithfully, treating her like a queen every single day of their marriage. Their love was the foundation of a family that grew far beyond what they could have imagined, and Randy was fiercely proud of every branch of that family tree.
Before retiring, Randy served as the Equipment Superintendent for Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, District 4. He was one of the hardest-working men most people knew—steady, dependable, and committed to doing things the right way.
Randy is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Logan; his two daughters, Patty Logan Keller and Deborah Logan Chestnut, both of Haughton, LA; and his sons-in-law, Billy Keller and Dean Chestnut. He was a proud Papaw to four grandchildren: Eric Logan Downey (wife Jordan), Destiny Chestnut Childs (husband Ashton), Danni Keller McHan (husband Mason), and Jewel Chestnut Gardner (husband Zachary). His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Morganne Leigh Downey, Logan Renee Downey, Jack Walter Downey, William Jace Gardner, Sebastian Quinn Childs, and Addison Michelle Garcia, with three more great-grandchildren expected in 2026.
He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, whom he thought of not just as relatives, but as his own children and grandchildren.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters; and one precious great-grandchild, Randall Zane Gardner, whom he now holds close.
A man of simple joys and deep roots, Randy loved deer and squirrel hunting, planting and tending a big garden, and reloading ammunition. His home was always full of life—cookouts in the yard, fires burning late into the night, chairs pulled close, and conversations that lasted as long as people wanted to stay. His house was an open-door home. An invitation was never needed. Everyone was welcome, and everyone was treated like family.
Randy was the sweetest—and most stubborn—man his family knew. He would give you the shirt off his back without asking why you needed it, only asking what he could do to help. He didn’t judge mistakes; he simply believed in fixing them and doing better next time. He had strong opinions—sometimes different from others—but never let those differences get in the way of love or relationships.
Above all else, Randy was family-first. He was the patriarch of this large, close-knit family and was endlessly proud of his daughters and the life they built together. He often said how lucky he felt to have the family and extended family that surrounded him.
In true Randy fashion, he did not want a funeral. Instead, he asked for a celebration of life—a gathering at his home filled with laughter, stories, love, and togetherness. A date for this celebration will be announced at a later time.
Randy’s legacy is not only in the generations that follow him, but in the way he lived: welcoming all, loving deeply, working hard, and always putting family first. He will be missed beyond measure and remembered every time loved ones gather—just the way he would want.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Brooke Dorsey, who was special to Randy and his family and loved like a daughter. An RN by profession and a caregiver by heart, Brooke’s steady presence, guidance, and compassion in Randy’s final days were a true blessing. She helped the family understand each step, supported them in difficult decisions, and remained with them until the very end.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Randy’s memory to make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that held a special place in Randy and Shirley’s hearts.
