Willam grew up in Saline Louisiana where he began his love for hunting, fishing, and running yo-yo’s on Black Lake. In Eros Louisiana is where he met the love of his life Betty Jean Mayfield at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in March of 1955. Later that year, on December 24th they were happily married. Since that Christmas Eve day, they have been married for 67 years.
He worked at Red Ball Motor Freight for 25 years. He then went on to work as an operator at Union Texas Petroleum and Western Gas, where he then retired after 11 years of service. In Williams free time, he loved to have cookouts with his family and going to Auctions in Waskom Texas.
William Jr. is predeceased by his father, William Lewis Mayfield; his mother, Oval Parks Mayfield; his sister, Patsy Elizabeth Singleton; and brothers, Johnnie and Burnette Pierce.
William Jr. Is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Jean Mayfield; his son, Louis Dale Mayfield (Carol); his granddaughter, Kendall Copeland Mayfield “sweetie” (Jacob); his grandson, Garrett Parker Cook (Amanda); his niece, Jannie Barrow; and nephews, Roy and Troy Holton.
As his family, we would like to give a big thanks to the Heart Of Hospice, and Haughton fire and police departments, for there unconditional care and support. Also, specials thanks to all of William’s family, friends, neighbors, and Haughton First Baptist Church for being with us and comforting us through this difficult time.
Visitation will be Sunday August 13th 1-3 PM, at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton Louisiana. Following a graveside service at Haughton Cemetery, off of HWY 157, with pastor Gavin Spinney presiding at 4 PM.
