A celebration honoring the life of Winona McKenzie Boswell will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Hill Crest Memorial Mausoleum in Haughton, Louisiana officiated by Rev. Todd Pickard. Visitation will also be held at Hill Crest Memorial between 6:30pm and 8:00pm, Friday, September 13, 2019.
Winona was born in El Paso, Texas on May 12, 1959, and passed away peacefully on September 10, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Winona was preceded in death by her mother, Avenella L. Antee, and her father, James Malcolm McKenzie; along with her son, Jeffrey L. McKenzie, sister, June M. Hershberger, and father-in-law, Thomas Boswell.
Winona leaves behind her husband of 32 years, Gerald T. Boswell; son, Glynn C. Hawthorne; and grandchildren, Leighton Hawthorne, Tyler Green, and Elizabeth and Estelle Hawthorne. She is also survived by three sisters, Lorna D. McKenzie, Rhonda Rinaudo and husband Patrick, and Suzanne E. Lee; and two brothers, James P. McKenzie, and David K. Lee and wife Sarah; mother-in-law, Margarette Boswell; and sister-in-law, Linda Reeme and husband Clarence. Winona is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, and great nephews and great nieces, along with her beloved poodle, Oscar.
Winona’s professional career included working for Kroger; as an accountant with Roberts Cherry Accounting, as well as with Young & Bell, CPAs. She concluded her professional career with 15 years as a beloved Business educator at Airline High School in Bossier. Known to her family as a lifetime student, Winona received her Associates Degree in Business Administration from BPCC, a Bachelor of Science from LSU-Shreveport, and a Masters of Professional Accounting from Louisiana Tech University.
Winona found much joy in life through various hobbies involving researching the family ancestry; engaging in competition through the likes of Jeopardy and Words with Friends; and a love for technology. Her lifetime dream was to stake her claim to the land of her ancestors in Scotland.
