
Betty Jackenthal Bein, of White Plains, NY, passed away on January 13, 2015, at the age of 85. She was born on May 8,1929 in the Bronx to Gertrude and Edward Jackenthal. She had an older sister, Roslyn, who pre-deceased her. Betty graduated from Hunter College and received a master's degree in early childhood education from Columbia University Teachers College. She taught young children for over 30 years in the New York City public schools. Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Leonard; her children Edward (and partner Kristin), Janet (and husband Ken), Philip (and his former wife Angella); her grandchildren Alexandra, Jared, and Joshua; and her niece Elizabeth (and husband Bill) along with their children Genevra and Gavin. A funeral service will be held on Sunday January 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 21 Broad Street West, Mount Vernon, NY. Betty had unbounded love for children. Accordingly, donations can be sent to Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Blvd., Virginia Beach, Virginia 23453, to provide surgery for needy children with cleft lips and palates.
