Born and raised in South Boston, Cynthia was the daughter of the family behind the beloved Kostick’s Deli. She went on to attend Boston University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Public Relations.
In 1955, Cynthia married the love of her life, Stanley Cronig, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted until Stanley’s passing in 2023. Together, they co-authored several books on life insurance and mutual funds, and for more than two decades traveled the world side by side, sharing a passion for photography that earned them awards and exhibitions across Cape Cod and beyond. They were known for leaving each other handwritten notes—a quiet testament to their enduring affection.
An accomplished nature photographer, Cynthia’s work appeared in Audubon and Oceanus magazines, Cape Cod Business Digest, and Cape Cod Guide. One of her photographs was selected from over 100,000 entries for Parade magazine’s online gallery. She earned first prize in two of the first four annual photography contests sponsored by the Cape Cod Times, and her photographs graced the covers of Sarasota, Florida and Sanibel and Captiva Islands Books. Her work was also featured in numerous travel books and exhibited at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Centerville Historical Museum, and Green Briar Nature Center. Cynthia was a Juried Artist Member of the Cape Cod Art Association and an active member of the Cape Cod and Newton Camera Clubs.
Cynthia’s artistic eye was matched only by her generosity of spirit. A gourmet cook and consummate hostess, her warmth, wit, and storytelling were legendary. Her hospitality made everyone feel instantly at home.
Though Cynthia and Stanley had no children of their own, they were deeply devoted to their extended family, whom they cherished. She is survived by her two nieces and their spouses, her nephew, her brother-in-law and his wife, as well as multiple grand nieces and nephews and many others who will forever carry her loving spirit with them.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 13, at 9:30am at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit, Massachusetts. Donations in Cynthia’s memory may be made to the Cotuit Center for the Arts, Barnstable, MA.
Cynthia's life was one of creativity, compassion, and connection—a legacy of love that continues to shine through her family, her friendships, and the beauty she captured through her lens.
