Dr. David Schick, age 84, of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Albert Bridge, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, passed away on September 26, 2025, surrounded by his wife and daughters, after an 11-month battle with glioblastoma multiforme.
David was born on May 1, 1941, in New York City to Salome and Max Schick, who had escaped from Nazi Germany in 1938, arriving penniless and without knowing one word of English but with a strong work ethic. David was raised in a lower middle class area of the Lower East Side of Manhattan, along with his brother Lester and his sister Janet. He attended Bronx High School of Science, City College of New York, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. On August 28,1966, David married Anita Obsgarten of Bronx, New York. After completing his internship at Downstate, from 1967 to 1969 David served a stint in the Public Health Service, where he and his new bride lived in Crownpoint, New Mexico. Upon his return to New York, David spent the rest of his career--residency, fellowship, and attending cardiologist--at Montefiore Medical Center. He was a founding partner of the cardiology practice of Goldberg, Grossman, and Schick (GG&S) before becoming full-time Montefiore staff and further growing the practice until his retirement in 2015. He also served on many committees and as President of the Medical Staff and of the Staff and Alumni Association at Montefiore Medical Center. He was renowned for his patient care and his devotion to the practice of medicine.
David was an avid photographer who enjoyed classical music and travel. He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed taking classes in art, art history, and Jewish topics. During the years he and Anita lived in Scarsdale and Hartsdale, he was an active congregation member and leader at the Greenburgh Hebrew Center in Dobbs Ferry, New York, where he served on the board of trustees and the membership committee. Once he and Anita started to winter and then relocated to Boynton Beach, Florida, he became an active member of Temple Torat Emet, where he served on the board of directors, the membership committee, and the ritual committee. He and Anita spent their summers in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where he often read Haftorah at Shabbat services at Temple Sons of Israel in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He was a loving and devoted husband, son, brother, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anita; daughters Rachel Schick Siegel (Richard), Sue Gordon, Melissa Puius (Yoram); grandchildren Emily Siegel, Ryan Siegel, Tessa Gordon, Saul Puius, and Mira Puius; sister Janet Sinder (Stuart); and nephews Bruce Benedon, Michael Sinder (Kim), and Daniel Sinder (Sharon). He was preceded in death by his parents Max and Salome Schick; brother Les Schick; and sister- and brother-in-law Rhoda and Allan Benedon.
