Edith Goodman

August 6, 1933 – December 2, 2025

Edith “Edy” Goodman, born on August 6, 1933, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, December 2, 2025.She spent her early life and the first years of her marriage on City Island, New York, before building a home with Allen and their growing family in Westchester County and, later, in Rockland County. She was the eldest child of Tillie and Sidney Stark and the loving older sister of Herbert Stark and Donna (Stark) Adelberg.

Edy met the love of her life, Allen Goodman, in the Catskills when she was just 12 years old. They married on February 3, 1951, beginning an extraordinary 73-year journey of devotion and partnership. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Allen in 2024 and by their cherished daughter, Joanne, in 2016.

Edy is survived by her son Bill (Eva) Goodman; her grandchildren Steven (Lisa) Sherman, Traci (Brendon) Cohen, Keith (Sara Kratzok) Goodman, Taryn (Jeff) Chambrovich, Mark (Elyssa Wright) Goodman, Michael (Caroline Student) Zaiss, and Zoe (Kenny Bourgon) Zaiss; and her great-grandchildren Maxx (Anthony), Alexa, Andrew, Jacob, Benjamin, Jace, Levi, Tyler, and Giordan.

Edy was the proud matriarch of the Goodman family. Always beautifully put together and wonderfully social, she loved to talk and could strike up a conversation with anyone. The self-proclaimed “shopping grandmother,” she loved picking out clothes for her grandchildren to make sure they looked just as well-dressed as she was. She had a remarkable memory for birthdays, milestones, and special occasions— buying cards months in advance to ensure no one was ever forgotten.

A service to honor Edy’s life will be held on Friday morning at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 100 Saw Mill River Road, Hawthorne, NY. Burial will follow at Wellwood Cemetery in West Babylon, Long Island.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Temple Beth El in City Island, NY, where Edy and Allen were proud founding members and devoted supporters throughout their lives.
