February 16, 1949 – October 11, 2026
Edward Arnold Friedman, 77, of Newtown, Connecticut, passed away on October 11, 2026.
Born on February 16, 1949, he was the son of the late Barnett and Helen Friedman. He grew up in Yonkers, New York, and graduated from Yonkers High School. He continued his education at the City College of New York and the University of Maryland School of Law,
followed by advanced studies in taxation at New York University.
He practiced law for more than 50 years, focusing on real estate transactions.
He began at the New York City Corporation Counsel’s office, later worked at Goldberg Weprin, then served as in-house counsel at Finkelstein Morgan before joining Novick Edelstein as a
partner. He had a gift for bringing people together and getting a deal done.
Edward loved traveling and experienced much of the world. He loved nature and found joy in boating on the lake and walking the trails with his dogs off leash, regardless of the weather. His friends relied on him for counsel and advice, and he was a valued mentor to many. He will be remembered for his loyalty, his sharp wit, his humor, and the love he gave to those around him.
Above all, Edward was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose presence, guidance, and humor were central to their lives. He shared a close bond with each of his three children and took great joy in his seven grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lana Joy Zelonky, with whom he shared nearly 52 years of marriage; his children, Lynsey Leigh Birnbaum (husband Jeffrey), Harley Alexander
Friedman (wife Abigail), and Andrew Harrison Friedman (wife Gaby); and his seven cherished grandchildren, Brett and Ryan Birnbaum, Shane, Jude, and Lily Friedman, and
Kyle and Avery Friedman. He was predeceased by his brother, Alan Friedman.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at The Riverside Memorial Chapel, 100 Saw Mill River Road, Hawthorne, NY 10532, with a private family burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory to the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary would be appreciated.
