

Herbert “Herbie”, Rolle. 94 of Palm Coast Florida was born on March 2, 1932 to the late George Bowles and Estell Rolle. Herbert was born in New York City and raised in Andros Mangrove Cay.
Herbert Rolle met the love of his life Hazel Brown in Nassau Bahamas. Together they embarked on a journey that endured over seven decades. During their union they raised twelve children as a large loving family, residing in the Bronx. Herbert Rolle was employed by Birnbaum Brothers Inc as a seamstress and shipping coordinator. After the plant closed, he was employed by New York City Department of Homeless Services as a client aide worker prior to his retirement.
He and Hazel enjoyed traveling, exploring and experiencing the uniqueness of different states and National Parks. Traveling via motor coach was relaxing and provided opportunities to capture the scenery of each state. Herbie enjoyed watching baseball, court shows, resetting his mind with a good old card game of solitaire, wetting his throat with a taste of Chivas Regal, smoking cigarettes and playing cards with his brothers, and friends. As a youth Herbie enjoyed swimming, fishing, and sailing on the “F.E.B.” his grandfather fishing boat. Although Herbert learned to drive later in life his car became his pride and joy. He also found pleasure listening to gospel and country music, spending quality time with his wife “Hazel” and family members.
Herbert and Hazel joined First AME Church of Palm Coast on February 11, 1996. Herbert was active in his church assisting with traffic flow in the parking area and other activities during worship meetings and other events.
Herbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hazel, sons Harcourt Brown and Herbert “Stevie” Rolle Jr., granddaughters, Stephanie Bass and Courtney Butts. Herbert Rolle is survived by his children; Joelyn “Pinnie” Smith and husband Raymond Abdul-Mateen, Robert Rolle, Ronald “Shorty” Rolle, Charlene Rolle, Pauline Rolle, Melissa Rolle-Johnson, James Rolle, Diana Rolle, Calvin Rolle and Arthur Rolle.
His legacy extends through his grandchildren: Brian, John, Charnetta,Khadijah,Kymani,Malcolm,Najee,Danai,Mia,ShaQuashia, Kyle,ShaQuille, and Zubari and 23 great grandchildren and several Great-Great grandchildren.
On July 24, 2026 life came full circle for Herbert Rolle as he was called home to be with his lord. “Though we grieve his passing we celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the profound impact he left on everyone he met. May he rest in eternal peace.”
Herbert Rolle’s final resting place will be at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York beside his beloved wife. His enduring spirit, humor, and uniqueness will be cherished by all who had the privilege of sharing in his remarkable journey.
