I'm very sad to learn about Hope's passing. I knew her to be such a smart, funny and wise person. She and Merril were such gracious hosts to me in their beautiful home that she loved. We met in a professional training course in 1969. I recall her offering me such helpful advice about my first trip to France. As we walked along the wooded pathways near her home she was so enthusiastic about the trip  that I could share her memories and found it so inspiring. That trip actually led to meeting the person who would become my husband and father to my children.  Although we didn't maintain our connection over all these years (I was still evolving through job changes and residence changes) I always remembered her wonderful personality and spirit. My sincere condolences to her family. I was blessed in my life to have known her.

I will truly miss my friendship fostered with Hope. She was a one-of-a-kind person who rarely pulled her punches. She was witty, sarcastic, kind-hearted and quick-tongued. I never had a conversation with her which left me feeling blank. She would leave you with a thought that could permeate the rest of your day. Her advice was blunt and true. And I appreciated every aspect of her. I will cherish the time spent with her, the stories we shared, and will always smile when I wrap myself in the colorful beach towel she gave me at the pool one day. 

Her and her husband Merril were more than generous with their kindness towards me over the years and my heart goes out to Merril for losing the truly special gift of a person Hope was. 

Memory is a wonderful burden, and I know the memory of Hope will comfort Merril, the Sobie's, her many friends and myself as we all move forward without her.

My condolences to Hope's family. I visited her once with my parents and ate smoked trout for the first time in my life! I worked with her son, Brendan, at the RAC one summer as well. She was a good friend to my mother at work. May her memory be of a blessing.

Les and I are so sad to hear about Hope. Merrill, it was because of our friendship with you both that we wanted to live in Usonia. We have fond memories of evenings at your home, dinners together and attending performances in NYC.
Rebecca, your mother and I often planned playdates and activities for you and Jocelyn.
