

TOPAL, Isidore M., 81, longtime resident of the Bronx passed away on March 27, 2016. Izzy Topal was born in the Bronx, New York on June 27, 1934 to Jack and Sylvia Topal. He was the younger brother of Gloria Weisberg. He grew up in the Bronx attending James Monroe High School. Izzy joined the Army in January 1954 and was stationed in Fort Lawton, Washington. After his discharge in January 1956 he met and eventually married Helen Mazelis on August 9, 1958. Together they raised a family of three children: Alan, Karen and Laura. He worked for over a quarter of a century for Servo Corporation of America as a electronic equipment quality control technician. He never hesitated to take out his tools and attempt, often with great success, to repair broken appliances, watches and other items. Izzy took great pride in his grandchildren and holiday celebrations he spent with them. He fawned over them and reveled in their accomplishments. He was an avid golfer who spent many an evening fitting in a round of golf in the good, and sometimes not so good, weather. After his retirement he continued his love of golf. Izzy and Helen spend many of their vacations, early on with their children and later together, taking numerous road trips.
Izzy is survived by his wife Helen. He is also survived by his children Alan and his wife Janet, Karen and her husband Timothy; and Laura as well as his grandchildren Jessica, Kelly, Zachary, Gregory and Katerina. Izzy was predeceased by his sister Gloria Weisberg. He will be remembered and missed by them all as well as many other family members and friends.
There will be a memorial service at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 21 West Broad Street, Mt. Vernon, New York, 2:00 PM. on Wednesday March 30th. The family will be receiving visitors on Thursday March 31st between 2pm and 8pm at Helen's home.
