In the Rosenberg family, he will always be known and remembered as "Uncle John."  Doing our growing up years, there was never a trip to New York when we did not have a visit with Uncle John and Aunt Ruth.  Sometimes he would open his suitcase(s) of samples that he was  taking around to potential customers, and give a gift to our family.  John was always one of our favorites.  He was always interested in our activities and careers, and always had such a friendly disposition. My Mom kept up the correspondence with Ruth over the years. Eventually John and Ruth bought an apartment in Century Village as a vacation property, the location where our Mom and Dad had moved to in retirement. Sister Irma and her husband Walter had also retired there so the three sisters could, at times, be together again.  In recent years,  when Jean and I came to New York we would visit with Ruth and John, if only briefly.  Even as John approached 100, he insisted on treating us to a meal at their favorite diner, and on driving us there. We held our breath, but he knew the route, and drove just fine. As Ruth's dementia worsened , times became more difficult for John, to be sure. I enjoyed my calls to John to the end, infrequent as they were. But the memories of him will always be with me. 
Jean: As a newcomer to the family, I always felt John was welcoming. His gentlemanly manners made me feel like I was part of the family.
