Leslie grew up in both the Forest Hills area of Queens, New York and the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. She graduated from Hunter College, City University of New York, and earned a Master of Science degree in Psychology.
Family was the heart and soul of Leslie’s life. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Morton Begun, of 51 years and is survived by: her three children Samantha (Begun) Schwam, Rachel Begun and Jared Begun; her son-in-laws Fred Schwam and Darren Smith and daughter-in-law Erika (Greenfest) Begun and; her four grandsons Chad and Jonah Schwam and Ryan and Kellen Begun.
A dedicated mother, her kids remember her love for hosting the holidays, playing the classic rock music of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s while she cooked everything from scratch and straight from her head (no recipes needed). They also remember her insistence on sitting down to meals together as a family at home every evening, her creativity in making Halloween costumes by hand and baking her infamous chocolate chip cinnamon crumb muffins and elaborately-decorated birthday cakes.
Fondly known as Bubby, Leslie was an involved and engaged grandmother of four. She could always be counted on to attend birthday parties and school and sporting events, and play an active role in babysitting and carpooling.
When she wasn’t engaged with her family, Leslie loved to read, cook, travel and play “her games” with friends.
