I grew up in what we called the "East" Bronx from 1947-54. I lived at 990 E. 173rd St. and I remember Dr. Friedman well.  He was a friend of my Uncle Sammy (Samuel Kalin).  Even when I got married and lived in Riverdale I'd go back to the old neighborhood to see him, bringing my infant daughter along.  I know he was on Third Avenue for a while before moving to 233rd Street.  For a long time after we moved to Mt. Kisco NY in 1971 we'd go back to see him. My daughter remembers going there by Metro North and walking up to see him and getting pizza nearby for the trip home.  My fondest and grateful memory of him was one time I drove to our local pool and did not stop at a stop sign in the park.  The local policeman warned me not to do it again and asked to see my license which I gave to him, not realizing OOPS it expired the previous January.  Couldn't drive until I got it renewed. But I needed an eye exam which I had done a few months earlier.  I called Dr. Friedman and he said he'd bring home a form and my husband picked it up and brought it to the DMV the next day.  For some reason I thought of Dr. Friedman today and googled his  name and was sad to hear he had passed. May his memory forever be a blessing.


Les was my partner in our optometric practice for over 30 years. Not only were we partners but good friends. After he retired we would have lunch every week until he and Helen would leave for Arizona for the winter.  Even during 2020 before it got too cold Cathy and I would sit in the driveway to spend time and chat as often as we could.  We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and wish them comfort during this time
