I had a History assessment for year 10 just now, I used Lola's artefact as a resource for it; her dress that was sewn by her mother.

Dear Lola 
My class is doing a world war two unit in reading. And for book clubs, I choose to read your book. I am very sorry you had to go through all of that mostly alone. And then when you realized you had been staying strong for nothing because your grandmother has died. I am at the part in the book where rose just kicked you out with the people on the street and then they took you in.  I think it is a very interesting book and I am excited to keep reading. Just so you know this is not an assignment I am just doing this out of the kindness of my heart.

Lola's book was the best historical fiction book I have ever read in my life. Very real.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss.  I did not know Lola.  I only came upon her story today searching through the Holocaust museum archives with my mother, who is a survivor of the Czortkow ghetto.  My mother wanted to send this note to express her sadness at learning of Lola's passing.  She felt a rush of closeness with Lola when she learned of Lola's story, which is in many ways similar to her own.  She then felt a rush of sadness on learning of her passing.  Although we do not know you, we wanted to share with you the feelings we have at this moment. I came across this obituary by accident. I cannot tell you how saddened my husband and I am to hear of Lola's passing. Walter, please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

A life well-lived can be measured by it's legacy. Lola Kaufman left such a legacy. I didn't know her, but I know her daughter, Deborah, who has an incredible capacity for love. I have been a witness to her steadfastness, generosity and ability to keep on keeping on. A living legacy, what better testimony to a life well-lived. My deepest condolences to the family.

So sorry for your loss.  She was a wonderful woman and will be deeply missed.  May memories comfort you during this difficult time.

Dear Greg and family, Thank you for sharing Lola with all of us who got the chance to read about her and appreciate who she was to so many. Without your writing, a whole lot of people out there would not know about her and her life. Her wedding picture tells a story of a wonderfully beautiful woman who embarked on a new journey, a journey that created a legacy of love and happiness. You are part of that legacy and your whole family a part of that love. My sincerest condolences to all who loved her and knew her.

She shines on the other side now..

We are so sorry for the loss of your beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was extraordinary in her strength that was free of all fuss, in her ability to carry on with the best of pragmatic optimism, in her willingness to use her deep suffering as a means of helping others.
