Lynn was born on June 19, 1942 in Peekskill, NY to father Seymour and mother Ruth (Levine) Geringer. She grew up in Peekskill and Briarcliff Manor, NY. She graduated from Peekskill High School and went on to attend Boston University. A pioneering woman in medicine, she graduated from New York Medical College in 1968. In her 3rd year of medical school, she met the love of her life, Bruce Heckman, who was also a medical student, and they were married within a year. She practiced as a Psychiatrist in Sleepy Hollow and Katonah, NY until 2022. We are grateful that she was able to help many people over a 54 year career.
Her passion for life and family is documented in the many photos she loved to take. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was always up for new experiences. Her love of travel, antiques, collecting, enjoying a wonderful meal, and spending time with loved ones were always on the agenda. The collection of “book boxes” that she and Bruce so carefully curated over 30 years will be forever memorialized in the Watson Library at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
She is survived by her daughter Dorin Wilson from North Andover, MA, and son Dr. Jason Heckman (Nicole) from Slingerlands, NY, and five grandchildren: Chloe, Elizabeth, Camilla, Thomas and Evan. She is also survived by her sister Marian Rokeach (David) and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Patrice Dweck and her brother Randy Geringer.
A funeral will be held at Sharon Gardens Cemetery at 11 am on Sunday November 3, 2024.
